Our Nursery is a wonderful environment for any young child who wants an excellent start to their journey of learning. We offer a range of sessions, mornings or afternoons, 5 days per week. Or parents may choose to send their child for two and half days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AM or Wednesday PM, Thursday, Friday).

We also offer 30 hours childcare for those children whose parents are eligible.

The Nursery day starts at 8.45am to 11.45am (morning nursery) and 12.15pm to 3.15pm (afternoon nursery).

Children are safe and well cared for by our superb team of staff who are friendly and welcoming to our youngest children but also to parents and carers who may be unsure and anxious as their little ones make their first steps into their school journey.

During the year a range of exciting topics engage and challenge the children’s knowledge and thinking skills, whilst developing the EYFS areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Knowledge and Understanding of the world.

  • Expressive Arts and Design

We ensure that our children are included in the full life of the school, not only the physical environment but also attending assemblies and church visits for special occasions, involvement in whole school learning topics that result in lots of visitors to their classroom to share their learning!

Most of our Nursery pupils go on to attend our school but not all and we fully support all pupils in their transition to their chosen school. Attendance at our Nursery however does not automatically ensure a place in our school as Local Authority Admissions criteria apply.

Here at St James, we have a balance of teacher directed tasks and child initiated activities, which allow children to develop to their full potential.

If you are looking for a EYFS setting where your child develops their independence whilst in a nurturing environment, we would be delighted to meet you and encourage you to contact the school office so that a visit to the school can be arranged.
