Additional F1 sessions
Extra Nursery sessions in The Pond are administered by The Catch.
Available times are open firstly to parents at St James'. Vacancies are then offered to any parent of a child in the Nursery age range. This facility is available only during term time.
The morning session times are 9:00 am until 12 noon. In the afternoon, the times are 1:00 pm to 3:25 pm.
Day care rates
Care for F1-age children who wish to stay for additional sessions is subject to the following charges:
Basic rate: £3.50 per hour
Lunchtime supervision: £3.50
Half-day package: £14
Week package: £70
A school lunch can be provided in the Unit at a cost of £2 a day or £10 a week.
Our snack breaks are an important learning time. They are social occasions and emphasis is placed on good manners and healthy eating. We provide fresh fruit and milk daily and drinking water is always available.
In addition, children are involved in baking and food preparation and will be encouraged to try new and unusual foods. They are never forced to eat anything.
Outdoor play is an important part of the Foundation Stage curriculum. A great deal of learning takes place outdoors.
The Pond opening times
8:55 am - 3:25 pm
Please try to ensure that your child is punctual, as we like to start the sessions promptly.
We hope to work closely with you to give your child the best possible start in school. Looking at books, reading stories, counting, singing and giving your child paper, scissors and crayons are all helpful to their progress.
Working with your Children
To help your children, please take every opportunity to talk and listen to them.
If your child is a new starter, we encourage you to bring them along to visit us and have a play before they start at The Pond.
You are welcome to stay for as long as your child needs you on their first day with us. Children are admitted individually to ensure a secure and happy start to their time in the Foundation Stage Unit.
You say you love your children
And want them to learn today.
So do I! That's why I'm providing
Lots of kinds of play!
You're asking me the value
Of blocks and other play.
Your children are solving problems,
They will use that skill some day.
You're asking me what's the value
Of having children play.
Your daughter's creating a tower,
She may be a builder some day.
You say you don't want your son
Playing that sissy way.
He's learning to cuddle a doll,
He may be a father some day!
You're asking about the interest centres,
They look like useless play.
Your children are making choices,
They'll be on their own some day.
You're worried your children aren't learning
And later they'll play.
They'll learn a pattern for learning
For they'll be learners always.
